More Than Mine: Finding Peace by Entrusting Our Children to God
Entrusting your children to God doesn’t weaken your role—it frees your heart and anchors their future in His hands.
More Than Mine: Finding Peace by Entrusting Our Children to God
There is a depth to a mother’s love that is both beautiful and heavy. It’s the kind of love that keeps you awake at night, wondering if your child is safe, making wise choices, and staying close to God in a world you can’t control.
I’ve watched this tension firsthand in my own mother’s life. Raising a large, blended family—biological, adopted, and through marriage—she carried the full weight and wonder of parenthood.
This post is written from my perspective, shaped by her story and the wisdom she shared in her podcast about this truth: God entrusts His children to us for a season.
1. The Foundational Truth: Our Children Belong to God
Real peace in parenting starts here: before they were ours, they were God’s.
Psalm 139 tells us God formed them, knew them, and wrote every day of their lives long before we ever saw them.
Psalm 127:3 says children are a heritage—God’s own treasured gift entrusted to our care. We are not owners; we are stewards.
Stewardship changes everything
When you care for something that belongs to Someone Else—especially to God—you treat it with more reverence, intention, and humility.
This truth lifts the pressure: your role is not to control every outcome, but to faithfully steward what God has placed in your hands.
2. The Steward’s Sacred Task
Stewardship is not passive—it’s active, intentional, and deeply spiritual.
• **Nurture their faith:** Deuteronomy 6:6–7 calls us to weave God’s truth into everyday life.
• **Model God’s love:** Children copy what they see. Live the gospel.
• **Discipline with love:** Guidance, not anger, shapes their lives (Proverbs 23:13–14).
• **Prepare them for independence:** Train them to walk with God even when you can’t walk beside them.
My mom learned this painfully after her first husband passed away. She realized her children needed to become adults who could stand with God even when she couldn’t stand with them.
3. The Struggle to Let Go
Letting go may be the hardest part of parenting. This is where faith becomes real.
My mom shared honestly about nights of worry—lying awake waiting for signs of safety, wondering about their choices and emotional wellbeing.
One of the hardest moments was when one of my brothers bought a motorbike without telling her. Her reaction came from fear—not from trust.
Later, two of her children moved countries—one to Canada, one to Mauritius. Every part of her wanted to hold on. But God reminded her again: “They were never yours to keep.”
4. The Blessing of Release
Releasing your children is not giving up—it’s giving them back to God.
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us God has good plans for them. Romans 8:28 assures us He works all things for their good.
Holding too tightly can put us in God’s way.
Hannah’s surrender of Samuel shows that what we release to God can flourish beyond anything we imagined.
When it hurts
Letting go isn’t a once-off decision—it’s a thousand small moments of trust.
As my mom says, “I’m still struggling. It’s a journey.” But we never walk this journey alone.
Scriptures to Hold Close
• Psalm 139:13 — God formed them before I knew them.
• Psalm 127:3 — Children are a heritage, not property.

Practical Takeaways
1) **Pray before correcting.** Let God shape your reaction.

3) **Say aloud: ‘Lord, they belong to You.’** Your heart needs to hear it.
4) **Release them to their calling.** Whether near or far.
A Closing Prayer
Lord, You know how deeply I love my children. Today, I surrender them again into Your hands. Replace my fear with Your peace, and teach me to trust You more. Amen.
TL;DR
• Our children belong to God—we are stewards, not owners.
• Our role is to guide them in His ways.
• Holding too tightly can hinder God’s purpose.
• Peace grows when we shift fear into prayer.
Meer As Net Myne: Vrede Vind Wanneer Ons Ons Kinders Aan God Toevertrou
Ek het hierdie spanning eerstehands gesien in my eie ma se lewe.
1. Die Fondamentele Waarheid: Ons Kinders Behoort Aan God
Ware vrede in ouerskap begin hier: voordat hulle óns kinders was, was hulle God s’n.
My ma het dit op ’n pynlike manier geleer toe haar eerste man oorlede is.
Soos my ma sê: “Ek worstel nog.
• Romeine 8:28 — God laat alles ten goede meewerk.
• Spreuke 16:9 — Hulle beplan; God bevestig.
Praktiese Wenke
1) **Bid voordat jy reghelp.** Laat God jou reaksie vorm.
’n Eenvoudige Gebed
Here, U weet hoe diep ek my kinders liefhet. Vandag gee ek hulle weer terug in U hande. Vervang my vrees met U vrede, en leer my om U meer te vertrou. Amen.
TL;DR
